Feminising Surgery FAQs
Feminising Surgery FAQs
Q: How is the implant placed?
A: The implant can be placed either above, behind the muscle or in a dual plane (partially over and under the muscle). Your surgeon will discuss the best option for you at your pre-operative consultation.
Q: To what size can my breasts be increased?
A: It is important to understand that implants are not manufactured in bra cup sizes. Any attempt to place too large an implant is not advisable. Instead, during your consultation, your surgeon will discuss your options and together you can come to the best conclusion on what you both feel is the best fit according to your body’s natural guidelines.
Q: Will my breasts look and feel natural?
A: While there will be some initial swelling and your breasts will feel firm as they settle post operatively, the expectation is that they should soften resulting in a natural look and feel.
Q: Will I need to take time off work?
A: Most people take about a week off work. However, if you have an extremely physical job, you may need to take longer or ask to be assigned to less strenuous duties. Your clinical team can advise you about returning to work if you are unsure.
Q: Will my breasts be painful afterwards?
A: Patients may experience some pain and temporary discomfort following surgery. Your breasts may feel tight and you may have some swelling. Breasts may be sensitive to touch for some time after surgery.
Q: What type of aftercare is needed for my breast augmentation?
A: You will need some time to recover after your surgery so please ask your surgeon for guidance. Normally two wound care appointments are sufficient, but you might need more visits if you develop a complication. We will provide a post-operative bra (the cost of which will be included in your quotation) and you will normally need to wear this for six weeks following your procedure, only removing for showering, as advised.
